Industrial Design and Interaction Design Visiting Scholars
Dongxiao Chu
Dongxiao Chu is currently an associate professor from Wuhan University of China and a visiting scholar at Purdue University from 2019 to 2020. He concurrently is the School Dean of Design Engineering at the Wuhan Qingchuan University of China. Dr. Chu has authored an English monograph of Development of Service & Product Design Based on Product Life Cycle Viewpoint: Consideration of Design Methodology to Maintain and/or Improve Product Value in 2014 and co-authored a textbook of Savor of Product Design Hand-Paint in 2012. He also published a dozens of articles in Japanese and English Journals. Dr. Chu now serves as an editor for several Journals in design science field at home and abroad. He participates actively in international academic conferences, such as serving as a peer-reviewer for the International Conference on Kansei Engineering and Emotion Research (KEER2012), for International Association of Societies of Design Research Conference (IASDR2019). He also actively serves as a member of experts for several industry organizations, such as Shenzhen Association of Ergonomics Application, a judge for CMF Design Award and International CMF Design Conference. Chu believes that design can drive innovation and design should be driven by research.
Chun Hyunjin
Chun Hyunjin is an associate professor of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics in China. He was an associate professor of Industrial Design at Nanjing University of the arts in China. He received his master of landscape design from Seoul national university in 2011 and a Ph.D. of engineering from Seoul national university in 2015. His current research interests include Maker space, especially on Maker city. He has published a dozen papers and books.
Zhujun Jia
Professor Jia is a designer who is deeply interested in interaction design and ergonomics. He received his Master’s degree of Furniture Design from Nanjing Forestry University in 2008 and a Ph.D. of Ergonomics from Nanjing Forestry University in 2012. His current research interests include barrier-free design for the aged group and cultural Architecture design. He has authored the books "Barrier-free Design" in 2015, "Research on Barrier-free Design of Living Environment for the Elderly" in 2016, "the "Office Design" in 2016 and a dozen of research papers.
Heeju Kim
Heeju Kim is a designer who is deeply interested in inclusive design and interaction design. She received B.A in Spatial Design, Ewha Women’s University in 2014, and M.A. in Design Products, Royal College of Art in 2016. Currently she is working at Purdue university as visiting scholar from 2017 to 2019. She believes design can serve as a bridge that connects isolated people and thoughts together. Through design both direct and indirect experience can be delivered, and through the delivered experience mutual understanding among different social groups can arise. Primarily, she is focusing on designs that encourage people to empathize with neglected social groups. Recently she has been awarded Helen Hamlyn Centre Award (2016), the IF Design Talent Award (2017), the IDEA Design Award(2017) and the Core77 Design Award(2017), four amongst other prestigious design awards she has attained. She has also presented her work at various international exhibitions such as the London Design Festival and the Dubai Design Week and her work has been featured internationally include Dezeen, The guardian, Domus, AXIS magazine, Viewpoint magazine, Page magazine and so on.
Qiuying Xu
Associate Professor of Industrial Design in Nanchang University
Qiuying Xu is an associate professor of Nanchang University in China. Her major is industrial design. she received her master of fine arts in industrial design from Beijing Institute of Technology in 2005 and a Ph.D. of mechanical engineering from Nanchang University in 2016.
Her current research interests include intelligent product design and computer aided design, especially on automobile industry. She has co-authored the book the study on car styling in 2014 and published a dozen papers.
Dehua Yu
Assistant Professor of Industrial Design in Beijing Institute of Technology
Dehua Yu is an assistant professor of Industrial Design at Beijing Institute of Technology in China since 2011. She received her Bachelor’s degree of Industrial Design from Wuhan University of Technology in China, and Master’ degree of Design Art from Beijing Institute of Technology in China. Now she is a Ph.D. candidate of Art Design from Beijing Institute of Technology in China. Her specialty is furniture design, Chinese traditional furniture study, appreciation and design. She conducts research on the history of Chinese traditional furniture of different dynasties, the art of Chinese Ming-style furniture, and the design of modern furniture inspired by Chinese traditional furniture.
Jianxin Chen
Associate professor of Industrial Design in Wuhan University of Technology
Dr. Chen is an associate professor of Industrial Design Department of Art and Design Institute of Wuhan University of Technology. His research focuses on industrial design, exhibition design and interaction design. Besides, he emphasizes the innovation value which is brought by critical thinking, design process and practice, studies the user experience, creates a good design and execution object, products, and makes the sustainable system that makes daily work and life more easier.
Associate Professor Chen attaches the dynamic integration of the theoretical research and design practice. His interests lie in dynamic information, interface and interaction design, and how type, image, sound, and movement may be combined for effective communication. His goal is to enable individuals and teams to more effectively and intelligently engaged in critical thinking and problem solving in the design process. He served many companies and government, such as SANY, MIDEA, DONGFENG MOTOR, etc. And He and his team designed numerous product solutions for clients including heavy machinery products, consumer electronics, lighting products, museum digital media and interactive exhibition, The exhibition on display and a large number of buildings and architectural design work.
As a academic researcher, Associate Professor Chen hosted 4 national and provincial scientific research projects, owns 4 national invention patents, published monographs 2 units. In 2010, his thesis won the award for innovation thesis in National Academic Forum for doctoral students which held in Tsinghua university. In 2012, His doctoral thesis was funded by the education ministry of China youth social science fund project. On the other hand, he published more than 20 academic theses in meetings and important journals at home and abroad, and guided many students whose design works won many prizes of design. In addition, Associate Professor Chen respectively received master's degree and doctor's degree in industrial design in Art and Design Institution of Wuhan University of Technology in 2005 and in 2010.
